Currently a 2 year degree is required for Registered Nurses to be licensed; however this could change in NY in 2012.  New York lawmakers will be debating a bill as early as January 2012 which would require a four-year degree for licensing.

Michael Bloomberg’s dream of creating a state-of-the-art applied technology sciences campus is advancing toward fruition. On Monday, December 19, Mayor Bloomberg announced that the competition amongst the universities and consortiums which entered bids for consideration had ended and that Cornell University and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology had been selected. The project, to be built on gifted vacant space on Roosevelt Island, also awarded the partnership $100 million to be used in construction of the development.

Americans may be unemployed in record numbers, but according to a recent Manpower Group study many employers are struggling to find qualified workers for vacant positions within their companies. It’s not that companies don’t want to hire; they need these skilled laborers desperately. But as more and more people stay unemployed for longer periods of time, they are unable to hone their skills, and specific technical knowledge is lacking amongst the general pool of job applicants.

Plan announced to reduce monthly payments on federal student loans

Outstanding student loan debt is expected to reach $1 trillion dollars by the end of 2012. Even those Americans with decent jobs have struggled in making their monthly student loan payments. Factor into this equation those who have experienced unemployment or gaps in employment and it is even easier to understand why many people stop making their payments altogether. On the 26th of October President Obama announced the expediting of a plan Congress approved in 2010 that would reduce the amount for monthly payments of federal student loans by 2012.
